Handle Construction & Care Guidelines
The 2.5-hour wheel-throwing class includes the option to add and attach a handle, subject to the clay’s firmness and condition at the time of attachment.
Please note that, in this experience class, the bottom of the piece cannot be trimmed after the handle has been attached. An excessively thick or uneven base may increase the risk of cracking during the drying and firing process.
The instructor will explain these considerations before you choose to add a handle and will provide guidance based on the condition of your piece.
Painting, Glazing and Pickup
After the class, your piece will remain at the studio to dry and go through bisque firing. We will typically notify you within 1–2 weeks once your piece is ready. At that time, you may schedule a complimentary return visit to paint and glaze your piece, or choose to have our studio instructors glaze it on your behalf.
The second firing after glazing typically takes approximately one week. If you return to the studio promptly for painting and glazing, the entire process generally takes 2–3 weeks from the date of the pottery-making class. Actual completion times may vary depending on appointment availability and kiln-firing schedules. Please wait until you receive a pickup notification before coming to the studio to collect your finished piece.
Actual firing timelines depend on weather, temperature, humidity, and the kiln schedule.
